Boat race

“Sokhi do not wave in the dark water

Do not let the waves flow in the dark water”

The mentioned song is part of a song about the boat race of the Titas River during the English period. On the first day of Bhadra, on the occasion of Manasa worship from far past, this boat race is being held in Titas. Regarding the anecdote of this program, it was reported from the Tripura Gazetteer that in 1908, boat was a historic competition. Akhaura, Ashuganj, Chandura and Cottir English jute traders rewarded the boat race with many gold medals in that competition. Besides, in the description of the report of Mr. Warsa, the subdivision administrator of Brahmanbaria it is also known that there was no boat race based on rules and regulations. One general boat challenged another boat and a boat, and the paws could climb up the stairs and carry the boat. In this way one boat won leaving another boat behind. In 1908, a boat race was held for some gold medals by Akhaura jute companies, and there was so much excitement that police had to maintain peace with many hardships.

In the 30's, the boat races were held in the celebration of festival with great splendor in the heart of Titas, near Brahmanbaria city. The winning boat was given trophy, medals, cups, shields, brass pots, etc.
