The Titas River

The Titas River flows in the south-western part of Bangladesh. It is known as the interlinked river of Bangladesh-India. The river originates in India, in Tripura. There is the name of the river Titas in the Howrah river in Bangla and the name of the river Saidra in the local Kokoborok. But the river in Bangladesh is known as Titas River.

 

Origin

The river flows near the capital of Agartala in Tripura, near Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria district, and crossing the border of Shahbazpur town, it goes further south and joins the Meghna River, one of the largest rivers flowing along the border of Bhairab-Ashuganj, the Titas river becomes. The average length of Titas is about 98 kilometers. There are many legends in the world, one of the world's most populous countries around Titus and Meghna. In one of them, it has been said that the daughter of Meghna in Titas river

 

The gas field found on the banks of the Titas River is called Titas Gas Field. It is one of the largest gas fields in Bangladesh. The gas field located in Brahmanbaria district as an important gas producing area was discovered by Pakistan Shell Oil Company in 1962. Up to 2000, 14 wells have been excavated. About 64 sq km wide, the gas field is dominated by dome.

 Famous novelist, Advaita Mallavarman, wrote a very popular novel titled 'Titas River', centered around the life and struggle of the fishermen community in the area near Titas river. Subsequently, Tititas named the name of a river, the famous film director, Hrithik Khatak, produced the film.
