Places and events of the Great War of 1971
The places and events of the great liberation war of 1971 were turned into special areas of Brahmanbaria throughout the liberation war of Ekatera. Its main reason is the geographical location of the district. From here, along with various areas of the country including Dhaka, guerrilla forces have entered the country on Brahmanbaria with easy communication system, border area and training from across the border. For the whole nine months of the liberation war, different areas of the district have been organized in front of the war. Five thousand freedom fighters have participated in Brahmanbaria with direct participation in the liberation war. Besides, apart from the few brokers and razakars, about 10 lakh people of the subdivision of Brahmanbaria took part in the direct and indirect liberation war. In order to manage the liberation war, Bangladesh was divided into 11 sectors. Most of the areas of Brahmanbaria sector were included in Sector 2 and Part-II of Sector. Major Sector Commander Sector 2 was Major Khaled Musharraf (later Major General, Bir Uttam, was killed in the 1975 military coup). He divided his sector into six sub-sectors. On 22 May 1971, a guerrilla team led by Mujahid Captain A Haq attacked the defense unit of the Pak army in the Salda river area of Kasba upazila. In this, 15 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 4 of the freedom fighters were martyred. On 7 May 7, 9 people of Pak army were killed by the Mukti Bahini on an Amboish river on the river Salda. On the night of September 14, a Pak army company soldier was moving towards Akshaura via Mukundpur towards Harshpur. After hearing the news, Commander Lieutenant Helal Murshed and some friends were waiting in the middle of Mukundpur and Harshpur with a turbine dam in the railway line. At about 4pm, the Pak army loaded train came under the mine. At the same time, some of the coaches of the train, which were engineered with heavy engine collapses and fell into a ditch, and 27 soldiers of the Pak army were killed in this incident. During the War of Liberation in 1971, Bir Shreshtha Mostafa Kamal was martyred in the battle of Akhaura. The tomb of Bir Shreshtha Mostafa Kamal is located at the place named Mughra of Akhaura upazila.
